Senior Couple Sitting on Bench, Lal Bagh

This post is for Thursday Challenge: BENCH.

I saw this couple in their sunset years of life deeply immersed in talking in a colorful bench in Lal Bagh, Bangalore. The arms of the bench looked so menacing but the couple sitting on it seemed sober. They may be discussing their problems, or may be their happiness. Whatever! I hope they found peace!

Lal Bagh Flower Show, August 2015

The 202nd flower show recently concluded at Lal Bagh. Can you guess the number of visitors there yesterday, on Independence Day? It was close to 20,000 visitors! It took a while for the local police around to control the traffic and guide the visitors. Luckily I made a visit mid week, quite early in the morning when there were hardly any visitors.

Composite Flower

Initially I gave a passing glance to the red zinnia. Something caught my attention and looked back to see the details. The circular pattern of the disc flowers, the yellow ones, standing out so brightly in this composite flower seemed to add more beauty to the flower. The ones that I thought were petals, the red ones, are actually the ray flowers. Hmmm… Mother Nature’s amazing creations!

Petal Patterns

How many petals does this Dahlia have? I never tried to count them, but just gazing at the picture makes me feel as if I am lost in those petals. It does give the feel as if the number of petals belongs to Fibonacci series but it is hard to prove because the petals are arranged in several layers. It is easier to prove Fibonacci series in single layered flowers like Daisy, Buttercups or Lily.

Coxcomb Flowers

Have you seen flowers that look like colorful brains? Some say they look like convoluted brains and some even find it resembling rooster’s comb. Also known as woolflowers, they have many medicinal properties. They bloom in a variety of colors like vibrant yellows, pinks, reds and gold colors. Strangely Cockscomb has no fragrance.
