I saw the tourist framing herself for a pic by her friend. Seeing her framed so well I knew half my job of taking a pic was done, I immediately clicked the moment. The pic was taken at Adalaj Step well, Ahmadabad.

I met her at Lal Bagh, Bangalore. She is one of the cleaners of the garden. I watched her for some time doing her duty very diligently; taking care to see no dry leaf or twig lay scattered around the sand sculpture of Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam. When I requested her for her pic she said everybody takes pic of Kalam Sir. (Noticed her hand that held a broom, adorned with glass bangles?)

For a change, not an Indian. She is a foreigner, a cheergirl who performed for IPL match held recently in Bangalore. They were rehearsing on MG Road Bangalore, when I crossed them on my way to Coorg in April 2015.

Cooks I met at Shri Shri Ravishankar’s ashram. I saw a group of them near the ashram’s dining hall. I was hesitantly looking at them, thinking what wonderful subjects they would make for my FOI series.
Seeing the camera hung on my neck one of them asked” You do photography?”
Of course I do, I replied. Can I take yours?
Immediately there was a chorus: Yes please do.

A house help we met at the home stay in Aldona, Goa. She has been serving the family for 45 years and is now a part of the family! See the cheerful face!

One of those rare people who are willing to be photographed and with absolutely no camera shyness, I like meeting such people who open up very well with strangers. I met her in Kufri, Himachal Pradesh. She is a local resident of the place.

A load is a load is a LOAD, even if it is light sack of bright and colorful flowers. This is a common scene in Bangalore during festival time. The lady was hurrying to get a proper place in the open market so that she could make quick sales.

This is a common sight in Goa. Foreign tourists keen to get clicked with locals and the Indian tourists keen to get clicked with foreign tourists. It is a kind of mutual admiration. When these 3 ladies were posing for a pic I quietly stole a moment.

I was in lot of dilemma for a long time whether to post the pics together, finally I did post. Both the pics were taken on the same day at different places of Bangalore city without their knowledge from a distance. I find a lot of contrasts in both the pics. While the man, attired in evidently poor clothes, carrying a load looked happy and carefree, also amused at something, the elderly

A gardener in one of the resorts I stayed recently. Somebody was kind enough to spare her a shirt so that she doesn’t spoil her saree at work. She was busy trimming the grass with the tool beside her yet she seemed interested in talking to me.

Fish vendors of Colva beach; women selling fresh catch of the day. They are all smiles to see a photographer, a woman with a big camera. (Mine is just a Canon EOS450D) I had a huge language problem here, they couldn’t follow the Hindi language I spoke and I couldn’t understand the Goan language they spoke. In the end we parted with many nods and smiles.

Can you guess what she is doing? I took the picture in Mayapur ISKON’s goshala, which houses more than 200 cows, bulls and calves.

Fishing is a livelihood practiced by people of Sunderbans for ages. The topology is such that this means of livelihood fetches them just enough to carry on with their lives. Because of salinity the soil is not suitable for cultivation and people resort to other means of livelihood.
