Cathedral of Granada, Spain

After the long wait for the precious Alhambra ticket we had the whole of morning free. That gave us the opportunity to stroll through the streets of Granada. The first on the list of Granada must see monument was the Cathedral. Taxis are not allowed near the cathedral, we were dropped off at a distance. But it is easy to get to the monument. The façade though monochrome of brick color is

Tickets for Alhambra, Granada, Spain

The plans for visiting Granada was made 3 months prior to actual date of visit, hotel reservations too were made a month before the dates but we forgot to do one important thing. That is, check up the places we intended to visit. Alhambra always figured in the top of the list of must see places in Granada, but it never occurred to us that the entering it actually isn’t so easy. It is not like

Faces of India - 218

Indians in Barcelona. This post is dedicated to Father’s Day being celebrated on 21st June. I saw this father and son intensely involved in this activity of bird feeding. The father was encouraging his young son to feed the pigeons with grains in his hand. The son too equally brave continued feeding the birds.

Street Lamps from Barcelona

Barcelona has some amazing street light fixtures from the 19th and 20th centuries. Most of them are functioning well. These old ones are made of cast iron and have such beautiful designs. Some of them are just single lamp holders while some have 3 or more. I showed two old lamps in my post: The Ramblas Ramble Walk, Barcelona. One was the Font de Canaletes, located at the Ramblas, where Barça

Barcelona to Granada, a Pleasant Drive

Day 2 we drove from Barcelona to Granada, a distance of 887kms! We had to pay a toll amount of 22euros to drive alonf these superb roads. While paying I thought, the sights and scenes along the road better be good for this high toll fees.

The initial part of the drive was along the sea coast of Balearic Sea. This was the most pleasant part of the trip; At some of the places the sea would appear

Cathedral Basilica of Barcelona

The tall cathedral was visible over other buildings as we toured along the Gothic quarter in the old parts of the town. With the spire of the cathedral as guide we could easily find the way to it through the criss cross of old lanes. The façade may not be stunningly beautiful but it is definitely impressive. Its history is equally impressive. The construction took 150 years from 1298 to 1417.

The Ramblas Ramble Walk, Barcelona

Sun sets at around 9PM in Spain in summer; this was such a contrast to the sunset time of 5PM in Greece 5 months back. We made good use of the long daylight hours for sightseeing during our entire tour. A regular day would start with sightseeing in early part of the day and driving to next destination in the later part of the day. The car hire was planned from Day 2, so the remaining part of Day

Barcelona to Barcelona via 3155kms in 15 days, a Road Trip

The vacation was good! Actually ‘good’ is a too small word to describe it. It was too good! Two countries in a row, Spain and Portugal; 3155kms of driving, halting at all odd places, heritage sites, towns and cities! Besides the drive we walked a lot along the old tracks in the cities.

The night halts were at: Barcelona – Granada – Seville (2 nights) – Evora (Portugal) – Lisbon (3 nights) –

Spain Sights 2

The last phase of our travel, the last 6 days well spent in Spain. Tomorrow I leave for home, Bangalore. Here are a few pics from the last 6 days.

Night 10 - Most memorable evening of Spain was at Salamanca Square. The entire lit up square looked magical. I spent one night in one of the hotels in the square.

Day 11 - From Salamnca we left for Avila, a walled city. The fort walls standing tall
